Engineering Social Change
13 March 2010
Free with TELUS World of Science admission
Intended for a teen and adult audience

Engineers acquire and apply knowledge in order to design solutions to problems. During this TELUS World of Science event, we will discover a unique side of engineering. With the help of community partners, we will identify local social issues and areas of need, and design solutions that have the power to affect change and improve societal quality of life. Come to brainstorm ideas, build prototypes, and learn by doing. Be a force of social change!

Here are some of the activities you can expect to participate in:

Building Solutions

What local social issues would you like to address?  How would you engineer solutions to problems like youth homelessness?  Come build prototypes that confront these issues and make Calgary a better place to live!

HouseHACK

Can you make your house and lifestyle more sustainable?  Using recycled materials and automation technology, modify your home environment and hack your way to a greener future!

Collective Calgary

If you could redesign Calgary, what would it look like?  Make your mark on a large-scale post-WWII map of Calgary and watch it evolve into a modern city throughout the day!

Global Engineering

How can an individual make an impact on a local and global scale?  Find out what is meant by “Global Engineering” and how to become an agent of change in a session facilitated by Engineers Without Borders!
