Latest TechnologiesThe new TELUS World of Science – Calgary will take advantage of all the newest technologies related to education, learning, presentation and building sustainability. Technology will be embedded in the building operation to maximize flexibility during the day; some spaces will be capable of being operated for different kinds of functions and various audiences at different parts of the day or week. Virtual RealtyThe new science centre will become the heart of a virtual internet science centre for all Canadians. The Werklund Learning & Leadership Centre will develop distance learning programs able to reach schools throughout Alberta and Canada with two-way communications. This will allow students in remote locations to ask questions and explore the new science centre. Visitors to TELUS World of Science will have the chance to extend their visit after they leave. They can explore ideas, visit virtual interactive exhibits and even e-mail themselves images of their own DNA. Key exhibits and stations will be empowered with RFID technology (individualized microchips embedded in wristbands or tickets) allowing visitors to send home results from experiments they have run, pictures of models they have built, video animations they have created or other pictures, web links and information. These virtual interactive exhibits will give all Canadians the opportunity to explore the connections between science, technology and art which make this facility a unique resource for Canadians.
