Werklund Foundation Learning and Leadership CentreChallenging children and youth to be creative and innovative, developing critical thinking skills is a shared goal of formal and informal institutions. This environment will invite learners to employ many tools that fuel the inventiveness and leadership skills so pivotal to succeeding in our ever-changing world. From curriculum-based interactive workshops and programs for elementary and secondary grade classes, to innovative public workshops and presentations, the Werklund Foundation Learning and Leadership Centre will provide a forum for teacher and guest support in navigating the changing worlds of science, technology and the arts. Imagine an artist who is also an electronic engineering technologist discussing her ideas and techniques for kinetic artwork with a class of Grade 6 students. Or the fundamentals of human biology being discovered in a workshop for Grade 2’s, with hands-on activities and experiments on how our skeletons and muscles work together to provide human movement – be it on the football field, the ballet floor, or in outer space. An overarching research outcome for the Werklund Foundation Learning and Leadership Centre will be to advance human knowledge of informal or autonomous learning and to utilize the entire new science centre as a learning laboratory. A constant commitment to improving how we as the TELUS World of Science – Calgary facilitate learning will emerge through these processes and the synergies created with education community colleagues. THE COMMONS – Space for shared opportunities including but not limited to special events, school lunches, science fairs, traveling exhibits, or research showcases. OTHER USES – This facility will be an inspiring platform for appropriate organizations to rent for their purposes. Of course, more mission-based conferences will be hosted by TELUS World of Science – Calgary and its partners, which focus on learning research, learning in science centers, and informal or free-choice learning. .
