Energy & Innovation: Hall of Transformation
In the energy and innovation gallery, guests will see energy as a driver of
change and transforming force in the world around us. From the energy that powers
a butterfly’s wings, to the energy released by massive movement of water,
and ultimately to the constant energy arriving from the sun, our world is created
and sustained through energy. Energy is more than just fuel.
Throughout history, we have found innovative ways to extract and transform
sources of energy leading to our modern technological world. Yet, the easy access
to energy that underlies modern societies has also caused adverse effects and
changed the composition of the atmosphere to an extent not seen in at least
3/4 of a million years. This is widely seen as having led to accelerated climate
change. Calgary and Alberta find themselves at the forefront of this global
issue, where meeting the energy demand of industrialized economies and pulling
developing countries out of poverty without causing environmentally damaging
consequences is the central challenge of the 21st century.
Drawing
on its rich history and knowledge, Calgary can play a major role in the
innovation required for a new generation of energy technologies.
OBJECT THEATRE – Alberta has a rich history in energy
production and innovation,
stretching back well over 100 years. We will tell this
story using the voices of real
Albertan’s who took part in some of the most pivotal events in this history
using the
format of a multimedia object theatre
LEED Technology exhibits – As
a LEED Silver building, the TELUS World of Science will be able to create interpretive
exhibits from the real-time data collected from the building’s working
green technologies.
TRANSFORMATIONS OF ENERGY– A playful
exhibit turns the kinetic power of guest footsteps into light displays on the
surfaces around them, and guests are introduced to the idea that energy is transformed
from one state or type to another through various technologies.
